Itanagar, March 31: Emphasising the crucial role of young people in shaping the future, Cultural Affairs Minister Dasanglu Pul on Tuesday said that youth are the torchbearers of both tradition and innovation, and must strive to preserve the state’s rich cultural heritage while embracing modern ideas.

Addressing the Somnath Samvaad – Youth Edition held as part of Somnath Swabhiman Parv 2026 at Rajiv Gandhi University, Pul stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between tradition and progress for holistic development.

She urged young people to take pride in their heritage and actively contribute to its preservation and promotion on broader platforms.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to promoting art and culture, the minister called for collective efforts to strengthen Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural presence at both national and global levels.

Highlighting the deeper meaning of cultural identity, Pul noted that the concept of ‘Swabhiman’ (self-respect) is deeply rooted in India’s civilisational ethos and reflected in the enduring legacy of the Somnath Temple.

“Despite repeated invasions and destruction over centuries, the temple continues to stand as a symbol of resilience, unity and cultural pride,” she said, encouraging students to draw inspiration from history and remain connected to their roots.

The event, organised by the Department of Art and Culture in collaboration with RGU, showcased the state’s cultural heritage and promoted youth engagement through art, history, and dialogue.

Pul also lauded the organisers, stating that such initiatives play a vital role in empowering youth and strengthening cultural foundations.

Among those present were RGU Vice-Chancellor S K Nayak, Art and Culture Secretary Mamta Riba, Joint Director S Mam, RGU Registrar N T Rikam, and keynote speaker Jayadeba Sahoo.
