Itanagar, 7 January : The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Tuesday launched a statewide protest campaign titled “MGNREGA Bachao Sangram”, opposing the VB-G-RAM-G Act, which the party claims undermines the legal employment rights of rural workers.

Addressing the issue, APCC President Bosiram Siram strongly criticised the BJP-led government, alleging that the new Act dilutes the rights-based framework of MGNREGA and converts it into a government-controlled, budget-linked scheme. He accused the BJP leadership of misleading the public through propaganda while ignoring ground realities such as delayed wages, reduced workdays and financial stress on tribal states like Arunachal Pradesh.

The decision was taken during a strategic Executive Meeting of the APCC held at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, chaired by Shri Siram, with participation from former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, senior Congress leaders, office bearers, frontal organisations and district representatives. The meeting discussed the socio-economic impact of the Act and resolved to follow the AICC’s call for a nationwide, democratic and peaceful protest.

To spearhead the agitation, the APCC constituted a committee for the “MGNREGA Bachao Sangram,” appointing Abraham K. Techi as Chairman and Chera Taya as Member Secretary, along with other members.

The APCC reaffirmed its commitment to protect the rights, dignity and livelihood of rural workers, tribal communities and marginalised sections, and announced that awareness programmes and protest activities will be organised across the state.
