Awareness Camp on New Labour Codes, Bonded Labour and Child Labour Held in Longding

Longding, October 10: The District Labour and Employment Department, in collaboration with the District Administration, organised an awareness camp on New Labour Codes, Bonded Labour and Child Labour at the Multipurpose Hall, Longding, today.

The programme aimed to raise awareness about labour laws, workers’ rights and the protection of vulnerable sections of society.

Advocate Epha Wangpan and Jamwang Lowang, District Art and Culture Officer (DACO), Longding, served as resource persons during the programme.

Adv. Wangpan spoke on the prevention of bonded labour and child labour, emphasising the need to protect the rights, dignity and welfare of vulnerable individuals.

Lowang explained the key provisions of the four new Labour Codes the Code on Wages, Code on Social Security, Industrial Relations Code, and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code. He also highlighted the differences between unorganised workers, gig workers and platform workers, stressing the importance of inclusive social security coverage under the new framework.

Both resource persons emphasised the importance of eligible workers registering on the e-Shram portal to access social security benefits and various government welfare schemes.

The programme began with a welcome address by Shri Hanye Boham, General Secretary of the AAPWU Longding District Unit, followed by an address from Shri Tachai Thangkhoham, President of the unit. The vote of thanks was delivered by Smti Mongdu Wangsu, Women’s Wing President of the AAPWU Longding District Unit.

The awareness camp highlighted the importance of public awareness and collective efforts in ensuring the protection of workers’ rights and preventing labour-related exploitation. (DIPRO)
