Longding Celebrates Indigenous Sports under Seva Sankalp Utsav 2026

LONGDING, October 9 : The District-Level Traditional Sports Competition under Seva Sankalp Utsav 2026 was successfully organised at General Ground, Longding Headquarters, on Friday, witnessing enthusiastic participation from various Panchayat Blocks across the district.

The programme was attended by Chemnga Wangpan, President of the BJP Longding District.

Teams deputed by respective Zilla Parishad Members (ZPMs) participated in six traditional sporting disciplines, including Tug of War (Boys and Girls), Bamboo Archery, Gulli Danda, Bamboo Climbing, Dali Haka Hinam and Bamboo Sticks Running. The participants showcased their sporting skills, teamwork and competitive spirit while celebrating the district’s rich indigenous cultural heritage.

Addressing the gathering, the Wangpan appreciated the initiative to promote traditional sports under Seva Sankalp Utsav. He emphasised that such competitions play an important role in preserving indigenous cultural traditions and passing traditional games on to future generations.

He also highlighted the role of traditional sports in promoting physical fitness, discipline, unity and team spirit among young people. Urging the younger generation to remain connected to their cultural roots, he called upon them to actively participate in preserving and promoting indigenous traditions and practices.

Wangpan further appreciated the ZPMs, village authorities, participating players and organising committee for their collective efforts in making the event successful.

The competition concluded with the felicitation of the winners, who received trophies and certificates in recognition of their performances.

The event served as a platform for celebrating Longding’s traditional sporting heritage while encouraging community participation and youth engagement in preserving indigenous games and cultural identity. (DIPRO)
