Multidisciplinary International Seminar on Northeast India & Beyond held
Rono Hills : A three-day Multidisciplinary International Seminar on “Northeast India and Beyond: Past, Present and Future” began today at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), bringing together scholars, academicians, and international participants to discuss the region’s socio-cultural, historical, and environmental issues. The event is organized by the Rajiv Gandhi University Research Scholars’ Forum (RGURSF).
The inaugural ceremony opened with traditional lamp lighting by Prof. S. K. Nayak (VC i/c), Dr. N. T. Rikam (Registrar), Prof. Sajal Nag, Prof. Mohan V. Aware, Prof. Uttam Pegu, Prof. Kh. Kabi, and the RGURSF President. The Book of Abstracts was also released on the occasion.
In his welcome address, the RGURSF President highlighted the Forum’s academic efforts, while Prof. Kabi emphasized the role of academic platforms in strengthening intellectual exchange. Dr. Rikam encouraged delegates to engage critically throughout the seminar.
Keynote Speaker Prof. Sajal Nag addressed the historical continuity and cultural plurality of Northeast India, urging scholars to challenge mainstream narratives and promote development models that respect ethnic identity. He described the region as “a galaxy of its own” deserving academic and policy recognition.
The Chief Guest underscored the importance of sustainable planning, addressing issues such as climate change, cultural preservation, and the use of technology, including AI, for protecting tribal languages and traditional knowledge.
The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Lokpa Tamang, Convenor of RGURSF.
The seminar will continue till November 16, 2025 with paper presentations, panel discussions, and cultural events exploring Northeast India’s evolving identity and global relevance.
