Child Rights Awareness and Mass Sensitization Programme Held at Roing

ROING, October 5 : The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR), in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Roing, organized a Child Rights Awareness and Mass Sensitization Programme at the VKV Auditorium, Roing. A total of 131 participants attended the programme.

The programme aimed to sensitize students, teachers, community members and other stakeholders on child rights, child protection mechanisms and the collective responsibility of society to safeguard children from abuse, exploitation, child marriage, child labour and other forms of harm.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address by B. Chaitom, DD (ICDS)-cum-DCPO. The dignitaries were felicitated thereafter.

Gemin Pertin, ZPM and Pujom Buchi, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Kabang Apum, Assistant Commissioner addressed the gathering and emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to strengthen child protection and ensure the safety and well-being of children.

Member, APSCPCR Ngurang Achung, delivered a session on “Child Rights and the Role of Community in Protecting Children”, highlighting the important role of families and communities in creating a safe, supportive and protective environment for children.

The technical sessions covered various aspects of child rights and protection. Tilu Linggi, Legal-cum-Probation Officer, DCPU, spoke on the Juvenile Justice Act, child rights, child protection mechanisms, the roles of the DCPU and Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and prevention of child marriage.

Ujum Perying, Lecturer, DIET Roing, addressed participants on the Right to Education, inclusion and prevention of school dropouts.

Advocate Enee Misaya, District Legal Services Authority, sensitized participants on victim compensation, including eligibility, procedures and available legal assistance and remedies.

Mido Mena, DELO, District Employment & Labour Office, spoke on child labour, its consequences and the mechanisms available to address child labour cases in the district.

A session on Mental Health and Online Safety was conducted by Osunam Pertin, Clinical Psychologist, District Hospital, Roing. The session covered emotional well-being, cyberbullying, social media misuse, gaming addiction and safe internet practices.

Inspector Bharti Mingki, OC Shantipur, LDV, conducted a session on the POCSO Act, stressing the importance of awareness, prevention, reporting and timely intervention in cases of sexual offences against children.

As part of the sensitization programme, documentary video clips on POCSO were also screened to enhance awareness among the participants.

An interactive session followed, providing participants an opportunity to raise questions, share concerns and discuss issues related to child protection and the safety of children.

The programme provided a valuable platform for strengthening awareness, coordination and collective responsibility among stakeholders, while reaffirming the commitment to ensuring a safe, secure and rights-based environment for every child.
