Keyi Panyor Holds District-Level Traditional Games Competition Under Seva Sankalp Utsav 2026
Yachuli, October 9 : The District Administration of Keyi Panyor organised a district-level traditional games competition at General Ground, Yachuli, on Friday as part of Seva Sankalp Utsav 2026, with the aim of preserving and promoting indigenous sports and traditional games.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from different Zilla Parishad Constituencies (ZPCs) across the district, with events including archery, bamboo climbing, bamboo race, Gulli Danda and tug of war for men and women.
Deputy Commissioner Ankita Mishra attended the programme along with Zilla Parishad Chairperson Nabam Piju, Superintendent of Police Akanksha Milind Tamgadge, Assistant Commissioner-cum-District Sports Officer In-charge Mumne Borang, heads of departments, Zilla Parishad Members, PRI representatives, players and match officials from the Keyi Panyor District Olympic Association.
Addressing the gathering, DC Ankita Mishra expressed concern over the declining popularity of traditional games as modern sports such as badminton, tennis and football gain prominence. She said the initiative under Seva Sankalp Utsav aims to revive traditional sporting heritage and encourage younger generations to take an interest in indigenous games.
Emphasising the importance of sports in developing discipline, teamwork and healthy competition, she encouraged the participants to perform well at the state-level competition and bring recognition to the district.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson Nabam Piju recalled her childhood days when traditional games such as Gulli Danda were an integral part of everyday life. Appreciating the government’s initiative, she urged the state government to make the event a regular feature of the annual calendar to ensure the continued preservation and promotion of indigenous sports. She also assured support to the winners and encouraged them to bring laurels to Keyi Panyor at the state level.
Earlier, Mumne Borang welcomed the participants and highlighted the objectives of the competition, urging them to uphold sportsmanship, discipline and mutual respect throughout the events.
The competition was conducted with the support of match officials from the Keyi Panyor District Olympic Association.
As part of the programme, the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM), Keyi Panyor District, set up an information kiosk and distributed Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials on free skill development training programmes under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). The initiative aimed to inform eligible youth about employment-oriented training opportunities.

- Tug of War (Female): 1st – Deed Zilla; 2nd – Yachuli Zilla
- Tug of War (Male): 1st – Pitapool Zilla; 2nd – Yazali Zilla; 3rd – Yachuli Zilla
The competition provided a platform for participants to showcase their traditional sporting skills while promoting unity, camaraderie and a spirit of healthy competition among the different constituencies.
The event also highlighted the importance of passing indigenous games on to younger generations as an integral part of the region’s cultural heritage. The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. (DIPRO)
